The Scholastic Phonics Readers series contains four levels of books, ranging from number 1-72. They each are composed of an entertaining story and illustrations, and focus on a particular phonics skill. Books 37-72 are part of the fourth level. They each have 16 pages, with a more complex story than the previous levels. In Books 37-72 children work on long and short vowel sounds, vowel combinations, and consonant blends, plus there is an expansion of vocabulary used. The title of each book often gives a clue as to the particular phonics sounds that will be practiced.
